These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. They are a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. It’s a director’s commentary of my Summer season adventures during the year of 2019 in the Michigan Geek Scene.

Steve Blum (Toonami) at JAFAX 2019
Steve Blum is a world renown voice actor and all around cool dude. In 2016, I interviewed him and I was hoping for another chance since I was light years better now. At JAFAX, that chance came to fruition. This time, we dive into his new voice acting classes, his collaborations with rapper Logic, the significant meaning of his extensive back tattoo, space, an obscure role that he would like to reprise, his thoughts on the upcoming live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, and much more. This interview was a personal favorite of mine for numerous reasons. I’m happy to say that it crushed our old interview. Please enjoy.

Here lies the final chapter in the 2016 Year in Review series. You might be asking you self: why are you releasing the last part in October of 2017? Originally, I was going to finish this series in early 2017 but events kept happening and this project was pushed back. Let’s look at it this way, this final review can give you a chance to see what the events were like last year and check out a few of the things that you might have missed. Grand Rapids Comic Con 2016 Review
The Grand Rapids Comic Con returned to the DeVos Hall in downtown Grand Rapids. How did this year fair against last year? What events transpired in the 4th round of this annual convention? How did I feel about the biggest geek gathering in my hometown? Let’s find out.
Yuri Lowethal at Youmacon 2016
Sasuke Uciha (Naruto), Simon (Gurren Lagann) and Ben Tennyson (Ben 10) are a paltry sampling of the numerous popular shows that Yuri has voiced for. We talk about Mad Max Fury Road, martial arts, Ninja Scroll, Dr. Who, charitable causes, steampunk, noir influences and many more topics in this engaging interview.
I always strive to create a fun and engaging interview for my guests. However, when the guest and I click right from the beginning, the real magic begins. Yuri Lowenthal was, by far, one of my favorite interviews of the year (and of all time)!
Ian Sinclair at Youmacon 2016
You might have heard Ian Sinclair’s voice in numerous shows such as Black Butler, Baccano, One Piece and Toriko. He’s also the voice of a dandy guy in space.
In part 1, we talk about anime, Space Dandy, a funny Pantera related story and our love for A Perfect Circle.
Ian Sinclair is also a huge comic book fan. In this second installment, we talk about comics, comic movies and the Netflix series. Plus, a special cameo awaits inside.
Steve Blum at the Grand Rapids Comic Con 2016
Voice Actor Steve Blum has been in so many series, games and movies. I wouldn’t even know where to begin by listing them. Ok. Here’s a few since you are pulling my arm. Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, Starscream from Transformers: Prime and Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels. We talk about Toonami, Cowboy Bebop and music. We also do bad impressions but I won’t spoil the surprise. Watch and find out.
