2018 Fall Year in Review Pt 2

These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. They are a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. It’s a director’s commentary of my adventures during the year of 2018 in the Michigan Geek Scene. Cherry Capital Comic Con 2017 Review

The Cherry Capital Comic Con (C4) was held at the Grand Traverse Resort during Memorial Day weekend. My trip to the convention, last year, left me with a good impression. Yuri Lowethal at Youmacon 2016

Sasuke Uciha (Naruto), Simon (Gurren Lagann) and Ben Tennyson (Ben 10) are a paltry sampling of the numerous popular shows that Yuri has voiced for. We talk about Mad Max Fury Road, martial arts, Ninja Scroll, Dr. Who, charitable causes, steampunk, noir influences and many more topics in this engaging interview.

I always strive to create a fun and engaging interview for my guests. However, when the guest and I click right from the beginning, the real magic begins. Yuri Lowenthal was, by far, one of my favorite interviews of the year (and of all time)!

JAFAX 2016 Review

2016 marked the return of the Japanese Animation Film and Anime eXpo (aka JAFAX). JAFAX began in June of 1996 at Kendall College as a one day event. It grew to become a two day event for the next year at that location. From year 3 to 19, JAFAX resided at the beautiful campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. JAFAX 19 was the last year the event was held at GVSU. Unfortunately the event grew too big for the campus, since the attendance level was over 5000 people. JAFAX 20 signaled the transition from a free 2 day event to a 3 day ticketed event. DeVos Hall became the new home for the Grand Rapids anime and Japanese culture event.
