MeggaXP’s “Open Door” Horror Show! Supporting Displaced Vendors

MeggaXP is taking ACTION in response to the situation that happened on the east side of the state in late January / early February. We are hosting our “OPEN DOOR” horror show to the vendors who were displaced, shut-out, or left-out in the cold (literally) at that event, and are offering those vendors FREE spaces at this one-of-a-kind celebration of horror.
This is NOT Blood Bash 2.0. There is no film festival, there is not a gaming room. This is designed STRICTLY for the vendors of all things horror and gore – especially those who were denied booths that were PAID FOR at a different event.
How Many Vendors Will Be There?
Well, there are 72 spaces, we know that. Some vendors may take up 1,2, or 3 spaces, but there are 72 spaces – no more, no less.

Penguicon 2026

Penguicon is a weekend-long, volunteer-run convention for people who like to think, make, argue, build, and occasionally stay up too late doing all of the above. It sits at the intersection of open source software, science fiction and fantasy, gaming, anime, maker culture, and the many overlapping communities that orbit those worlds.

What makes Penguicon unusual is that it never decided it had to be only one thing. You can attend a technical talk about Linux, databases, or security. Wander into a panel about writing science fiction or worldbuilding. Learn to solder, knit, or repair a costume. Play board games or roleplaying games. Watch anime or cult movies. Argue about text editors and debate the philosophy of Star Trek at the same time. Take part in rituals that are half joke and half community glue.

You know how your favorite moments at a conference are the hallway conversations between the talks? There’s a complimentary hospitality suite to encourage that!

In the spirit of open source development, the emphasis is on your direct participation! Many events are hands-on, discussion-based, or experimental. A huge number our speakers are from our attendees, and audiences are expected to ask questions, challenge ideas, and occasionally help build the thing being discussed. If you like learning by doing, Penguicon is designed for that!

Penguicon also has a strong tradition of humor and self-awareness. Panels may be serious, but they rarely take themselves too seriously. Long-running traditions like coffee and chocolate rituals, late-night anime, geek music, and improvised events exist alongside more formal programming. The result is a convention that does not feel at all like a trade show and more like a temporary village of curious people.

For newcomers, Penguicon works because there is no single “right” way to attend. Come for the technical content, the creative panels, the games, the social atmosphere, or simply to discover new interests, a new hobby, a new perspective, or a new set of friends. There has usually been too much on the schedule for anyone to attend all of it, and we’re proud of the embarrassment of riches! Just make sure you get some sleep.

If you enjoy thoughtful conversations, collaborative making, and communities that value both rigor and play, Penguicon is worth your weekend!

Blood Bash 2025

Blood Bash is coming back for our 8th iteration of our international horror film festival and convention on Friday, February 7th (Film Festival Bonus Night) and Saturday, February 8th (MAIN convention day) in 2025!!!!
What is Blood Bash?? Well, it’s a celebration of horror like you’ve never experienced before!!! Here are just SOME of the highlights of the show:
VENDOR ROOM – The true bread and butter of any convention, our Vendor Room is chock-full of over 50 tables of horror vendors selling anything from movie posters to fake heads to taxidermized real ducklings that are dressed up as Beetlejuice…yes…it was a thing.
FILM FESTIVAL – If the bread and butter of this festival is the vendor room, then the steak and eggs is the FILM FESTIVAL portion of this show. Each year we get over a THOUSAND entries into our festival, and we narrow it down to an elite 42-50 movies each year. Those movies (all shorts) will play during the weekend, with the semi-finalists playing on Friday night, and the Finalists playing on Saturday. These films are trying to win “Best In Show,” “Favorite Actor,” and “Favorite Actress” awards, voted on our Blood Bash judging panel and our VIP ticket purchasers!
COSPLAY CONTEST – Guys and gals alike can dress in their Saturday best and participate in our cosplay contest! Winners receive a trophy, a champion’s badge, some swag, and a place on the MeggaXP Wall of Fame!!!!
SCREAM QUEEN CONTEST – Our favorite event of the weekend – – guys and gals can both give it their best scream to try and take home top prize during our scream queen contest! But don’t blow it all on the first try, at Blood Bash, the top THREE screamers have to scream AGAIN in the finals! Can anyone dethrone BACK TO BACK champion Bethany M????
LIVE ACTION HORROR GAME SHOWS – Whether it’s Family Feud, Jeopardy, Horror Trivia Live, or any other show we come up with – audiences can participate or watch a variety of horror themed game shows!
HORROR THEMED CARNIVAL GAMES AND VIDEO GAMES – Take your turn tossing severed baby heads into a clown named Bilbi’s mouth. Toss some rings over bottles filled with blood. Throw darts or shoot nerf guns at horror icons. There are a lot of carnival games to be had at the Bash, and the best part – THEY’RE ALL FREE!!! Oh, and there are also horror themed video game challenges as well!!!
ADULT DRINK SPECIALS WITH A HORROR TWIST – – – The bar is open and we serve our usual horror themed cocktails – the Bruce Juice, the Monkey Shines Cocktail, etc.
BLOOD BASH AFTER-DARK FEATURING TATTERED & TORN (DETROIT’S SLIPKNOT TRIBUTE BAND) LIVE IN CONCERT – The return of the Blood Bash after-party is at hand and it is FULLY loaded with awesome stuff to do, but most importantly, you can see Tattered & Torn in concert, as they are one of the best Slipknot tribute bands you’ll ever see! This event will run from 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM!
MORE SURPRISES – BB24 was our biggest and best show yet, and because of that, we are more than likely going to add in a few extra surprises!
