April CARPS 2022

Central Action Role-Playing Society
We are a high-fantasy LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) group that is currently based in Southeast Michigan. You may already be familiar with tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) such as Dungeons and Dragons or White Wolf products. If you are, the difference between an RPG and a LARP is that RPGs consist of half a dozen or so players sitting around a kitchen table with dice and a single Game Master, whereas a LARP is a cross between an elaborate theatre production, live combat, and a hike in the woods. LARPs such as ours have costuming, boffer weapons, and dozens of players whose actions influence not only what you can accomplish but the course of an entire fantasy world. If you aren’t, well, them’s the basics.

Greetings to all new and prospective players! As always, your first event is free, with a free rewrite should you decide you would rather play a different sort of character or have a different set of skills. (You must be 18 to play.)

A Festival of Oddities 2022

Voted the “Top Local Event/Festival” in 2021’s Top of The Town competition, Mid-Michigan’s original oddities festival is presented by Scream Queen Productions and The Courthouse Square Association.
Admission to the grounds is free for all ages. On the lawn, you’ll find our Macabre Marketplace featuring over 100 of the state’s most talented artists and makers. Visit Food Truck Row for a wide variety of delicious cuisine from all over The Mitten. Stop by the Kitten Tent hosted by Saved by Zade and adopt a new furry family member. Play vintage carnival games to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. Visit Erica Jo Photography’s photo booth and take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir. Swing by the axe wall to blow off some steam. Peruse the Living Library, featuring the best paranormal, true crime, and horror authors in the state. Buy autographed copies of their books and chat with them one-on-one.
Admission to the historic Courthouse Square Museum is $5/person. Explore oddities from around the globe, including The Sturgill Collection presented by Stimson Hospital. Each stately room is brimming with historical artifacts, some stranger than others. Ever heard of an electro-thermo bath? Yeah, they’ve got one of those. They’ve also got restless spirits wandering the halls, if you’re into that sort of thing. Attend presentations in the grand courtroom hosted by experts in the fields of true crime, the paranormal, and the macabre. Meet the Paranormal Collective, a group of experienced investigators from around the state. Hear their first-hand accounts of hauntings in Michigan, and get an up-close and personal look at how their gear works. Search the Snake Pit hosted by Saving Scales Reptile Rescue for the perfect cold-blooded addition to your household. Bid on thousands of dollars worth of unique wares donated by our vendors to raise money for charity.
The mission of A Festival of Oddities is to provide support to local small businesses, artists, and charitable organizations, all while offering the community a fun, affordable, unique experience. Come be a part of the festival with heart. We are the weirdos, mister! And now it’s time to show the world.

Shiver Me Timbers 2022

Ahoy, Me Hearties! Batten down them hatches, it’s the time of year for our Shiver Me Timbers Annual Pirate Event! Due to the rotten scurvy called COVID and it’s potential exposure, we did not have this event last year.
As responsible business owners, we have deliberated and debated and signed articles with Kings Court Castle located at Canterbury Village 2359 Joselyn Court in Lake Orion, MI. Yes we be taking the castle in its entirety to give us plenty of space to spread out and social distance indoors.
We will have vendors on the 2nd Floor hall and main floor common room. We be open from 11 to 6pm fer yer shoppin pleasure just like da Swap Meet we had thar only bigger. Then we will be heading to the main floor for the evening party until midnight.
Thar be shoppin, fun, dancing, & music all in one day. So weigh anchor, hoist the mizzen, and splice the main brace! Come and join us for a bit of fun. This be an open event so ye may invite anyone ta join us.
Kids under 15 are always free and should stay no later than 9pm. This is a piratical & steampunk garb event. We welcome sea bound pirates as well as airship pirates! A pirate be a pirate no matter luv.
There will be no silent auction this year in an attempt to reduce exposure but will vend everything. The raffle will take place for sure.
Ta be clear – the raffle, the recognition of the new ships/captains of the fleet, as well as entertainment will take place in the evening.

Cadillac Pop Culture Con will be a fun filled event. Highlighting all forms of Popular culture from comic book, Sci-Fi, Horror, and so much more. There will be gaming too. Look out for Magic the Gathering, Warhammer 40k, Dungeons and Dragons, Cards against humanity, Ultimate Werewolf, etc etc.
