March Mix Tape Theme: Michigan Nerdcore/Nerdcore Adjacent Artists

This week’s track is from Aramis616. It is inspired by a famous vampire killer.

Artist: Aramis616
Song: House of Belmont
Album: Six Paths
Genre: Hip-Hop

Making a return to the MI Mix Tape series is Aramis616. This Grand Rapids native is a rapper, producer, artist, and fan of the Great Saiyaman. I love how he does not pigeonhole himself when it comes to choosing what subjects to rap about. His latest releases (at the time of this writing) are a great example of diametrically different topics in terms of emotional resonance. “The Con” is a fun anthem of that feeling you get when your favorite convention is coming, and you can’t wait. I can relate to that. On the other side of the topical spectrum, “February 2025” is about the serious reality of dealing with emboldened racism. I relate to that as well. Aramis616 is very versatile.

I wanted to highlight the final track off of the self-produced Six Paths album. “House of Belmont” is a cool song heavily inspired by the Castlevania series. It is the story of Johnny Belmont (along with Vic) and his quest to destroy Dracula. The synth-laden beat is very fitting, in my opinion. I can envision climbing up a rotating stairwell in a castle tower. My favorite part is the lyrical description of Dracula making his presence known. Be on the lookout for that when you listen to this song. The voice acting was a nice addition, as well. I could easily see this song used as the end credits to a Castlevania set in modern times because we all know that Dracula keeps coming back.
