Lakeshore Gaming and Entertainment Fest Review

Convention Type
Gaming and Pop Culture

When and Where
August 30th-31st at the VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center, in Muskegon

Things to Do/See
Attend panels, cosplay, vendor room, pop culture vehicle attractions, video games, table top games, Photo Scavenger Hunt, cosplay contest, Miniature painting, Stand up comedy

Pros
Held in one central location. Panels, events, and the vendor room were on the 2nd floor while gaming took places on the 1st floor. Everything was reachable within 5 minutes of walking.

Sturdy badge with a soft and comfortable lanyard.

I appreciated the incorporation of digital displays outlining the event schedules for the weekend.

The video game area was very impressive. It featured a wide variety of consoles ranging from retro to current systems. There were rhythm games, fighting games, shoot ’em ups, racing games, and more. A VR headset was present, as well. If video games were not your thing, there was an area for tabletop gaming as well. The gaming library had numerous games to choose from.

Friendly staff who were very helpful.

Free Parking.

Cons
There was a lack of signage giving directions to where events/areas of interest were located. Also, there were no descriptive signs outside the rooms that would give attendees an idea of what was taking place in said room. I had to either ask staff or poke my head into a room to figure out what the room was designated for. I hope signage will be present next year.

Do I recommend attending the event?
Yes. I would love to see this event continue to grow.
