C4 is Northern Michigan’s largest comic book and pop entertainment expo. Located at the scenic Grand Traverse Resort, C4 is Northern Michigan’s perfect gathering of comic book creators, exhibitors, and fans. Cherry Capital Comic Con (C4) is a comic book convention that celebrates the medium of comics, rather than a specific genre. At C4, all comics are equal, as are their creators and their fans. The organizers of C4 intend to prove to the world that comic conventions – just like comic fans and the comics, themselves – don’t have to be “this” or “that”. They can just be what they are…which is simply “cool”. Connect with your favorite creators at a variety of panels. Meet up and coming talent in Artist’s Alley. Find great deals on comics and collectable merchandise at our gathering of exhibitors. Participate in our costume contest, with categories for both adults and children.

During my initial interview with, podcaster supreme Ming Chen, I had to skip numerous questions due to time constraints. Since Ming was down for another interview, we dove into the other topics. Metroid, comics that ended too soon, traditional comic strips, A Tribe Called Quest, and concerts were among the numerous things we talked about in this long form interview. Put it on in the background and enjoy.
*Note* For some reason, my mike cut out for a good portion of the interview. I had to go back and do voice over for myself. If it sounds a little off, that’s why.

These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. They are a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. It’s a director’s commentary of my adventures during the year of 2018 in the Michigan Geek Scene. Here are some photos of my journey through 2018. These photos resonated with me for various reasons. This album features pics from my time at CosPlay Day, the Cherry Capital Comic Con, and the Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival.

I met up with Billy West again. Billy is a long running voice actor featured in Futurama (Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Zap), Ren and Stimpy, and Disenchantment. We talk about his comedy heroes, musical background, his podcast, and old hollywood periphery. Plus, we talk about his upcoming show on Netflix, Disenchantment. Another fun interview with the incomparable Mr. West. Enjoy.

Jill Thompson is a multiple Eisner Award winning artist who’s work includes The Scary Godmother series, Beasts of Burden, Magic Trixie and Wonder Woman: The True Amazon. Seriously, her water color art is amazing. Of course, we talk about the Scary Godmother and Beasts of Burden. We also talk about manga, anime and pro wrestling. Being the huge wrestling fans that we are, we talked about pro wrestling for a solid half hour in this interview. I must note that we had to pause the interview while a young man and his father came up to the table to talk to Jill. Per Ms. Thompson’s request, the interview is left completely unedited. This was a wonderful interview and I hope that you check it out.
