TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a nonprofit group that focuses on the concept of ideas worth spreading. TEDx is a locally, self-organized event under the TED banner. Instead of paying $6000 to attend a TED conference, you can pay a significantly cheaper price to attend a TEDx event. Speakers are there to present ideas that could possibly challenge the way you think or inspire you to action. Mark your calendars.

The Smithsonian Art Museum is bringing its traveling video game art exhibit to Michigan. For roughly 3 months, the Flint Institute of Art will host the exhibit. Over 40 years of history of history will be on display. Video games are now recognized as an artistic medium. Still images, videos, interviews, consoles and playable games will be on display. Halloween Robot Parade & Global Robotics Arts Festival 2014

For those who are into robotics, this will pique your interests. Macomb Community College with cooperation with Lawrence Technological University will host this RoboFest event. The parade will consist of robotic floats. Expect at least a ghost or a ghoul in the parade since it will be close to Halloween. Afterwards, the Global Robotics Arts Festival takes place. Robots will be in costume and dance. Robots will paint. There will be robotic music as well. The best thing about these robotic displays: it’s student driven from many age and class levels. Are you into LARPing? For those who are not in the know, LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. Winter Haven is a sponsored chapter that is a part of the Final Haven LARP system. Set in the post-apocalyptic world of Phanterra, chapters are connected which allows players to move to any event in the system. Players gain experience points at events which have story timelines. There are races to choose from or you can create your own character. Do battle in a safe environment with padded weapons. Interact with unique characters and enjoy yourself. Mark your calendars.

Downtown Lansing Zombie Walk 2014

Downtown Lansing Zombie Walk 2014
October 11th from 11am to 1pm.

Is there a better way to get prepared for Halloween and helping people than a zombie walk? I can’t really think of any. This annual event is entering year five. There are no registration fees. Donations of money will help the Lansing City Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarships. Donations of food will help Greater Lansing Food Bank. Mark this on your calendar.
