For the previous two years, I wrote reviews for Michigan’s largest anime convention Youmacon. My experience this year was not drastically different from the other visits. With that being said, I decided to forgo the traditional review on the event because I feel it would be redundant to do so. Instead, I will focus on the things that I experienced at the 2017 edition of Youmacon.

Pepsi Halloween Cola Review
I’ve never done a review on food products before because, quite frankly, I just eat them. If I like what I’m eating, I continue to shove the food/drink down my gullet. If I don’t, then I don’t ever come back to it. With that being said, I was curious enough to try the Pepsi Halloween Cola. This version of Pepsi is/was a limited edition soda found only in Japan. Since Ohio Kimono was very generous in donating one for review purposes, I decided to give the soda a shot. Read on to see my thoughts.
Grand Rapids Comic Con 2017 Guest Review
Over the years, I’ve attended many conventions and events throughout Michigan. I’ve tackled all of the events by myself because being a one man band for convention coverage is the norm for me. I figured that would be the case for the 2017 Grand Rapids Comic Con too. However, a friend and supporter of MIGeekScene (by the name of Tiffany Ewigleben) reached out and offered to help me with the event. Since I enjoyed her review of the convention, from last year, I decided to take her up on the offer. Without further adieu, please venture forth and read this guest review of the Grand Rapids Comic Con.

2016 Year in Review Fall Part 1
2016 Year in Review Fall
September – October
These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. Like last year, they will be a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. The theme of FIRSTS sum up the beginning, middle and end of my year, as you will see. Enjoy my year of 2016 in the Michigan Geek Scene.
Motor City Steam Con 2017 Review
The Motor City Steam Con returned to Detroit for its second year. For the second year in a row, I was not able to fully attend the Motor City Steam Con. Due to my partial absence, I cannot elaborate on what transpired before my arrival. However, it looks like I missed out on quite a few awesome events such as Bollywood dancers at opening ceremonies, a steampunk parade and a steampunk wedding. How did this year’s event stack up to the inauguration? Let’s find out.
Dokidokon 2017 Guest Review
Over the years, I’ve attended many conventions and events throughout Michigan. However, due to multiple events occurring on the same weekend, I reside myself to the fate of attending one event and giving it my full attention. Dokidokon was going to be another case of an event I could not attend due to prior commitments. I figured I would read various comment sections and forums about the new anime convention. Then, out of nowhere a longtime friend and supporter of MIGeekScene, Emily Auten offered to write a guest review about the event. Being a convention fixture herself and a writer for Nerd Much, I trusted her opinion. Want to know what Emily thought of Dokidokon? Read on, my dear friends. Read on.

JAFAX 2017 Review
The Japanese Animation Film and Art Expo returned to DeVos Hall and the Amway Grand hotel for their second year at these locations. This event ran into a few problems last year (long registration waits, confusing signage, etc). Despite all of that, the convention was a good time overall. Did they learn from the growing pains of being a convention that essentially started over? Find out.
