Knight of the Round are a video game music band that delivers crushing metal renditions of Final Fantasy songs. It’s been a few years but I was able to catch up with Justin (guitar) and Adam (bass). Before their main event performance at MAGFest, we talked about their latest album, War of the Triad. We also dive into MAGFest memories, influential bands, black metal recording production standards, solo music projects, and a whole lot more. This interview was a great way to kick off 2019. Enjoy.
Brandt Cooley aka Professor Shyguy is a chiptune pop artist. This talented multi-instrumentalist creates awesome chiptune songs. Whether they are nice original tunes or cool covers, he lays down catchy songs. We talk about his albums, music videos, metal, gatekeeping mentality, our favorite game soundtracks, comic books, and much more.
For the first time ever, I travelled out of state to go to a convention. What convention, you ask? MAGFest, which is short for Music and Gaming, is held in Maryland. Since I was on vacation, I went to fully enjoy what the event had to offer. This is more of a story instead of a full on review. Sure, there are some review aspects here but it’s still a story. Did MAGFest live up to be what it was hyped out to be or did it suck? Read on to find out.

These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. Like last year, they will be a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. The theme of FIRSTS sum up the beginning, middle and end of my year, as you will see. Enjoy my year of 2016 in the Michigan Geek Scene.
