West Michigan Steampunk Meetup

In costume is encouraged. With the Motor City Steampunk Symposium coming up and several members probably intending to go I thought it would be a good time to have a meet up. This is open to all members not just those going to the symposium. If we get a large enough group present we could discuss the possibility of making a regular meet and greet event at random places in Grand Rapids. Right now the bar doesn’t know we are coming, but since it is on a Sunday how crowded could they be?

Pre-Dokidokon Cookout and Cosplay Meetup

This is a ‘Bring your Own Beverage’ event (No alcohol is allowed on park property) and Cosplay is encouraged, but not required! It’s summer so make sure to take this into thought if coming in costume 🙂

Beautiful Milham Park is a historic 49-acre park that has the Portage Creek running through it, crossed by three different bridges, and hundreds of mature shade trees. It is a popular destination for family picnics and other gatherings.

There is a large picnic shelter with electricity and a seating capacity of 144 people, which is something Dokidokon has rented for this event! The park also has four different playgrounds which are located throughout the park offering different levels of play for children.

Sparta’s Potter in the Park

On June 26th, 1997, we learned of “The Boy Who Lived”. Join us at Rogers Park in Sparta, MI where we will be celebrating all things Harry Potter with this year’s “Tri Wizard” theme. The magic will begin at 3:00 PM. Your ticket includes entry into the park where you will be given the wizarding experience of the summer. This ticket includes all onstage events, snakes and owls, arts and crafts, demonstrations, house points competition, strolling through the Wizards and Wands Emporium, Horcrux Hunt, Gnome Tossing, and much more. Please note that a seperate ticket will be needed for the following events: Quidditch Training w/ the GVSU Grindylows, Swish and Flick Painting, and Herbology*. Children 5 and under will have free park entry with seperate tickets required for above noted sections. Once again we will be offering you an opportunity to race in the Arthur Weasley Duck Race. Portions of the proceeds will be donated towards Now Playing 4 Kids, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to provide at-risk children the opportunity to dream, imagine, create, and explore by giving them the chance to experience the arts. Each duck raced will help pay for one foster child or at risk child attend a movie, festival, fair, or other entertainment opportunity. We are thrilled to let Harry Potter, a horribly abused orphan, help underprivleged and at risk kids find magic in the muggle world. The winning duck will recieve house points and $250.00.

Although the park event begins at 3:00 PM, the Tri Wizard Food Truck Rally begins at 11:00 AM with an opportunity to vote for your favorite. Votes will count towards House Points.

CARPS June Event 2018

Central Action Role-Playing Society
We are a high-fantasy LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) group that is currently based in Southeast Michigan. You may already be familiar with tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) such as Dungeons and Dragons or White Wolf products. If you are, the difference between an RPG and a LARP is that RPGs consist of half a dozen or so players sitting around a kitchen table with dice and a single Game Master, whereas a LARP is a cross between an elaborate theatre production, live combat, and a hike in the woods. LARPs such as ours have costuming, boffer weapons, and dozens of players whose actions influence not only what you can accomplish but the course of an entire fantasy world. If you aren’t, well, them’s the basics.

Greetings to all new and prospective players! As always, your first event is free, with a free rewrite should you decide you would rather play a different sort of character or have a different set of skills. (You must be 18 to play.)
