GR8bit Live is an annual Video Game Music (VGM) concert which serves as a fundraiser to purchase board game and video game equipment for the local children’s hospital. All of the proceeds from the event went towards the hospital. For the first two years, the event was held at the Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids. Last year, a convention was centered around the concert and held at DeVos Hall. GR8bit Live IV returned back to being a concert for this year. This time around, it was a 2 day concert event with activities attached.
2016 marked the return of the Japanese Animation Film and Anime eXpo (aka JAFAX). JAFAX began in June of 1996 at Kendall College as a one day event. It grew to become a two day event for the next year at that location. From year 3 to 19, JAFAX resided at the beautiful campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. JAFAX 19 was the last year the event was held at GVSU. Unfortunately the event grew too big for the campus, since the attendance level was over 5000 people. JAFAX 20 signaled the transition from a free 2 day event to a 3 day ticketed event. DeVos Hall became the new home for the Grand Rapids anime and Japanese culture event.
Part 2 of the awesome conversation I had with voice actor Tyson Rinehart. We talk about his enthusiasm for WWII history, punk rock influences and his band Bullet Machine. We also talk about video games, Spinal Tap moments while performing, Final Fantasy VII Machinabrigded and Puni Puni Poemy.
Voice actor Tyson Rinehart (Steins;Gate) has a kindred spirit conversation with me about Attack on Titan, the music industry, our love for Rumiko Takahashi, buying anime back in the 90s and punk rock.
Part Dos of this great conversation with Sammy Inoue-Harte at JAFAX. This time around we talk about her upcoming project Tailchaser’s Song, Dr. Who, her feelings for John Barrowman, Final Fantasy and video games. Plus, we do jazz hands.
Samantha Inoue-Harte is a voice actress, animator and producer. This fun interview started off as an interview but quickly changed into a conversation about animation, Berserk and Clerks. Check it out this first part.
