Cure-a-Con

WELCOME to Cure-a-Con! At it’s heart, this convention is a cross-section of two subcultures: people who love sharing their devotion for comics, sci-fi/fantasy, cosplay, and gaming, and people who want to help those in need. We are nerds, geeks, and fans working to improve the lives of people facing hardship, and we’ve found a way to leverage our passion to do just that.

At Cure-a-Con, we raise funds to end the pain and suffering of cancer through education, research, and services. When you purchase a ticket, rent an exhibitor booth, or become a sponsor, you are actually making a donation to the American Cancer Society, and we’re showing you our appreciation for that gift by inviting you to a weekend of nerdy celebration. By partnering with us and attending Cure-a-Con, you have the opportunity to geek out with your friends and finish the fight against cancer. Join us. Be a hero.

Thank you for helping to make a difference.

Run for Robots 5k

ATTRACTIONS: Kick off the fall season with a run/walk in Lapeer’s beautiful Rowden park trail.
Although a fun race for everyone, it will still be timed for participants who like to have those numbers!
The Chimeras will also have interactive robot demonstrations in the pavilion before and after the event, so participants can get a glimpse at what the team does.

PURPOSE OF THE EVENT: To raise funds for The Chimeras FIRST Robotics Competition Team. They are a free to play, high school aged team, who count on generous donations, investors and fundraising to keep the team running. Proceeds will help pay for robot parts, competitions, travel & other expenses which can be near $50,000 a year.

Being a part of a robotics team impacts students in ways that are life changing. A wide array of skills learned that are valuable for future careers, scholarships earned, job ready at graduation, youth mentoring, volunteering, leadership and relationships that build character. It’s an experience like no other and definitely more than just robots! Supporting this program helps to shape these students lives!

CHARITY DONATION:This year the team also wanted to help another important non-profit in our area,The Family Literacy Center. 10% of all our proceeds will go to this charity to further support education in our community. Please see their website for more details on all they do for our community and the programs they run. www.readlapeer.org

Gamers for Giving 2017

Gamers for Giving is a competitive gaming tournament and LAN party that helps generate resources for the initiatives of Gamers Outreach. Funds raised from the event help support Gamers Outreach charity initiatives, such as building portable gaming carts for children in hospitals.

Sponsors help us cover overhead costs associated with hosting the event so that attendee entry fees and donations can be used strictly for the programs of the charity.

Gamers for Giving 2016 will take place within the main arena of Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center during the weekend of April 1st and 2nd.

Gamers for Giving is a non-stop gaming marathon which will begin in the morning hours of Saturday, April 1st. The event will last until Sunday evening, April 2nd. Attendees are welcome to stay overnight in the venue, but for those interested, hotel information can be found in the Travel section.

Aside from fundraising, as gamers, it’s also our focus to host a great event for our supporters. Gamers for Giving provides a welcoming, friendly environment where gamers can come together to play their favorite video games in a clean, social, and competitive atmosphere. Simply by participating, gamers are making a positive impact in people’s lives through resources generated by the event.
