Mardi Gras Steampunk Gathering

We had a great time in December, so now it’s time for another Steampunk Gathering. Come out to Patrick J’s to celebrate Mardi Gras!

Patrick J’s is an Irish Pub in Berkley on 12 Mile Rd, with lots of free parking for your airship on the street and in the back. Good food! Good drinks! Good company! (21 and over)

Michigan State University Comics Forum 2017

Held every year on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University, The Michigan State University Comics Forum is an an event that brings together scholars, creators, and fans in order to explore celebrate the medium of comics, graphic storytelling, and sequential art.

Keynote Speakers for 2017
James Sturm
Our Creator Keynote Speaker, James Sturm, has garnered many awards for his work including a Xeric grant, an Eisner Award, and Time Magazine’s Graphic Novel of the year. He’s also a founder and teacher at the Center for Cartoon Studies and has worked for a number of comics publishers including Marvel Comics, Fantagraphics, First Second Books, and Drawn and Quarterly to name but a few.

Charles Hatfield
Our first Scholar Keynote Speaker, Charles Hatfield, has written numerous articles for The Comics Journal. He’s also the author of Alternative Comics: An Emerging literature published by the University Press of Mississippi and Hand of Fire: The Comics Art of Jack Kirby, which received an Eisner Award for Best Educational/Academic Work. Hatfield also teaches courses that specialize in Comics, Popular Culture, and Children’s Literature at California State University Northridge.

Michigan Nordic Fire Festival

Ship burning, fire dancing, spear throwing, sword fighting, kid’s quest, hammer toss, music, beekeeping, mead drinking, arrow shooting, friend making, winter-loving, helmet wearing, hands-on adventure! Con Ja Nai 23

Con Ja Nai is a FREE “not a con(vention)”, hosted by Animania, the Japanese Animation Film Society at the University of Michigan. Con Ja Nai has a few staples that make it worth coming to!
