The Cherry Capital Comic Con (C4) was held at the Grand Traverse Resort during Memorial Day weekend. My trip to the convention, last year, left me with a good impression. I enjoyed my time at this event to warrant a return trip to C4. How did this year compare to my time last year? Did I enjoy my time? Find out.
Rich Bloom is an illustrator and graphic designer in the Michigan independent comics scene. We talk about his love for drawing retro style robots, punk music, Cowboy Bebop, weird commissions and the Legend of Zelda.

C4 is Northern Michigan’s largest comic book and pop entertainment expo. Located at the scenic Grand Traverse Resort, C4 is Northern Michigan’s perfect gathering of comic book creators, exhibitors, and fans. Cherry Capital Comic Con (C4) is a comic book convention that celebrates the medium of comics, rather than a specific genre. At C4, all comics are equal, as are their creators and their fans. The organizers of C4 intend to prove to the world that comic conventions – just like comic fans and the comics, themselves – don’t have to be “this” or “that”. They can just be what they are…which is simply “cool”. Connect with your favorite creators at a variety of panels. Meet up and coming talent in Artist’s Alley. Find great deals on comics and collectable merchandise at our gathering of exhibitors. Participate in our costume contest, with categories for both adults and children.
Only two events for this week.
Don’t know what to do for the week? Well, check out what’s going on for this weekend.
These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. Like last year, they will be a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. The theme of FIRSTS sum up the beginning, middle and end of my year, as you will see. Enjoy my year of 2016 in the Michigan Geek Scene.
When May arrives, winter is nothing but an afterthought. No snow or ice in sight. The cold weather is gone (for the most part since it is Michigan after all.) Con season is in it’s stride. What events did the fifth month of the year bring me? Let’s find out.
Here are some photos of my journey through 2016. These photos resonated with me for various reasons. This album features pics from Penguicon, Heroes vs Villains Dance Party, the Motor City Comic Con, the Cherry Capital Comic Con, the Great Lakes Fur Con, the Cedar Springs Renaissance Faire, and the Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival. Enjoy.
