Dokidokon is a new con to the Kalamazoo area. Check out these photos from this fun anime con.
Lansing’s annual anime convention, Shuto Con, descended upon the Lansing Center again. For the last three years, I had a good time experiencing this convention. How did my fourth visit to Shuto Con compare to last year?
I finally had the opportunity to do a proper interview with nerdcore rap duo, 2d6. Boy, did I regret it. If I wasn’t contractually obligated and held at gunpoint, I would’ve never released this. DJ Stuck Down a Mineshaft with a Broken Leg is a horrible reprobate while Cliff B is pretty cool. All kidding aside, I had a lot of fun talking with these two again. We dove into their albums, their hilarious music videos, their great song titles, video games, pro wrestling, and a Barenaked Ladies podcast. A lot of insults were thrown back and forth in this mad train wreck of an interview.
Ming Chen is a prolific podcaster and is one of the cast from AMC’s Comic Book Men. We sit down and talk about comics, video game music, GI Joe, podcasting and much more. Enjoy this fun conversation with one of the nicest people you will ever run into.
For the previous two years, I wrote reviews for Michigan’s largest anime convention Youmacon. My experience this year was not drastically different from the other visits. With that being said, I decided to forgo the traditional review on the event because I feel it would be redundant to do so. Instead, I will focus on the things that I experienced at the 2017 edition of Youmacon.

Drunk on Comics did an interview with Joe (aka the guy who runs this site aka ME). If you want to know more about me and how MIGeekScene started feel free to check out this interview.
Youmacon is the biggest anime convention of Michigan. Enjoy.
Final album of photos from JAFAX 21. Enjoy the photos from the annual anime expo in Grand Rapids.
JAFAX turned 21 this year. Check out all of these cool photos from Grand Rapids’ long running anime con.
These Year in Reviews are not, what I call, official “reviews”. Like last year, they will be a series of musings, learned lessons and stories of what I experienced through out the year. Of course, reviews are featured but they are blended in with everything. The theme of FIRSTS sum up the beginning, middle and end of my year, as you will see. Enjoy my year of 2016 in the Michigan Geek Scene.
Ah, Summer. Beautiful, sunny weather without a hint of snow in sight. Con season is in full swing and outdoor festivals appear to entertain you. I can only be inside of convention halls and hotel rooms for only so long before the freedom of outside beckons me. Just like the Lovin Spoonful said, “Despite the heat, it’ll be alright”.
