2016 Year in Review Fall Part 2 (Yes, I know it’s 2017)

Here lies the final chapter in the 2016 Year in Review series. You might be asking you self: why are you releasing the last part in October of 2017? Originally, I was going to finish this series in early 2017 but events kept happening and this project was pushed back. Let’s look at it this way, this final review can give you a chance to see what the events were like last year and check out a few of the things that you might have missed. This final chapter talks about my time at the Grand Rapids Comic Con, Youmacon and the Motor City Black Age of Comics. Considering that these events are around the corner at the time of this article’s publishing, I feel it is a timely and relevant release. Enjoy.

Our convention has many areas in which attendees can explore. We bring guests ranging from all sorts of talents; voice actors, musicians, industry workers, etc. We have an expansive manga library where attendees can relax and catch up, or start reading a new manga series. We host many panels that are put on by fellow attendees or our special guests that cater to many different interests. Our video game room offers multiple consoles and games for our attendees enjoyment. And if you’re hungry, take a break in our Maid Cafe, and enjoy freshly baked goods and con food favorites.

Dokidokon 2017 Guest Review

Over the years, I’ve attended many conventions and events throughout Michigan. However, due to multiple events occurring on the same weekend, I reside myself to the fate of attending one event and giving it my full attention. Dokidokon was going to be another case of an event I could not attend due to prior commitments. I figured I would read various comment sections and forums about the new anime convention. Then, out of nowhere a longtime friend and supporter of MIGeekScene, Emily Auten offered to write a guest review about the event. Being a convention fixture herself and a writer for Nerd Much, I trusted her opinion. Want to know what Emily thought of Dokidokon? Read on, my dear friends. Read on.

JAFAX 2017 Review

The Japanese Animation Film and Art Expo returned to DeVos Hall and the Amway Grand hotel for their second year at these locations. This event ran into a few problems last year (long registration waits, confusing signage, etc). Despite all of that, the convention was a good time overall. Did they learn from the growing pains of being a convention that essentially started over? Find out.
