My Free Comic Book Day Experience

May 5th, marked my first time experiencing Free Comic Book Day. For those who are unaware, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is held on the first Saturday of May each year. It is a promotion to get people out of their houses and into the comic book shops. Since I love art and reading, what better way to experience both at the same time than in a comic book? In the past, FCBD fell on a day when I was either at work or at an event. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to go out to a few local comic shops to check out this national geek holiday this year. Read on to see what my experience was like.

Anime Park 2018

Welcome to Anime Park! We are a small convention located in Canton, Michigan one of the only known cons run by only high schoolers! Here at Anime Park we like to connect otakus  in an event we like to call an anime convention. Anime Park offers most things that larger, more established cons provide, like our dealers room, artists alley, a maid cafe, panels and so much more! The best thing about about Anime Park is that admission is by donation, and any profit we make goes right back into making this convention even better!

Our convention will open to the public at 10am on Saturday, May 5, 2018.  The address is 8415 Canton Center Road, Canton, MI, 48187 (Canton High School). Opening ceremonies will be at 10:30am. The panels and the dealers’ & artists’ room will run from 10am-5pm.  Our cafe will be open from 11am-5pm. Closing ceremonies will be from 5:30-6pm and we will close the convention promptly at 6pm.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Step into a galaxy far, far away on May 4th + 5th, 2018, as the Tangent Gallery bar transforms yet again into an immersive recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina!

First Order fascists have seized the galaxy,
and their new Supreme Leader appears to be a childish egomaniac.

After the death of Cantina-regular Han Solo, rumors emerged that his fellow war hero (and Jundland Wastes moisture farmer)
Luke Skywalker returned to stand against them.
Some say he was a ghost, a mirage.
That he lit a new spark, that the old Rebellion is reborn.

Not everyone agrees with these events, however.
It is a period of civil war among us, and these are strange times.

A troubled tale of Solo’s youth looms ahead, inevitably filled with lies and deception. Many prefer his past remain a mystery.
Others hope for an escape from saga politics or religion.

But is it true, as some say, that the Force never belonged to the Jedi, that it lives in all of us? Is there a growing Resistance out there or just a delusional band of activists? Is endless star war our lot in life?
Republics, Empires, and Orders come and go.
Bloodlines don’t matter much in the Outer Rim.
You want to make a difference?

Go Force Yourself.

They learn how to create chiptunes on their gameboy, and come listen to sci-fi. There is also the Maker Market which is like a dealer room except they don’t accept commodities, only thing’s people have designed themselves.
