Sparta’s Potter in the Park

On June 26th, 1997, we learned of “The Boy Who Lived”. Join us at Rogers Park in Sparta, MI where we will be celebrating all things Harry Potter with this year’s “Tri Wizard” theme. The magic will begin at 3:00 PM. Your ticket includes entry into the park where you will be given the wizarding experience of the summer. This ticket includes all onstage events, snakes and owls, arts and crafts, demonstrations, house points competition, strolling through the Wizards and Wands Emporium, Horcrux Hunt, Gnome Tossing, and much more. Please note that a seperate ticket will be needed for the following events: Quidditch Training w/ the GVSU Grindylows, Swish and Flick Painting, and Herbology*. Children 5 and under will have free park entry with seperate tickets required for above noted sections. Once again we will be offering you an opportunity to race in the Arthur Weasley Duck Race. Portions of the proceeds will be donated towards Now Playing 4 Kids, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to provide at-risk children the opportunity to dream, imagine, create, and explore by giving them the chance to experience the arts. Each duck raced will help pay for one foster child or at risk child attend a movie, festival, fair, or other entertainment opportunity. We are thrilled to let Harry Potter, a horribly abused orphan, help underprivleged and at risk kids find magic in the muggle world. The winning duck will recieve house points and $250.00.

Although the park event begins at 3:00 PM, the Tri Wizard Food Truck Rally begins at 11:00 AM with an opportunity to vote for your favorite. Votes will count towards House Points.

CARPS June Event 2018

Central Action Role-Playing Society
We are a high-fantasy LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) group that is currently based in Southeast Michigan. You may already be familiar with tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) such as Dungeons and Dragons or White Wolf products. If you are, the difference between an RPG and a LARP is that RPGs consist of half a dozen or so players sitting around a kitchen table with dice and a single Game Master, whereas a LARP is a cross between an elaborate theatre production, live combat, and a hike in the woods. LARPs such as ours have costuming, boffer weapons, and dozens of players whose actions influence not only what you can accomplish but the course of an entire fantasy world. If you aren’t, well, them’s the basics.

Greetings to all new and prospective players! As always, your first event is free, with a free rewrite should you decide you would rather play a different sort of character or have a different set of skills. (You must be 18 to play.)

TromaDance Detroit 2018

TromaDance Detroit is committed to creating and operating a film/art festival that is for the people and by the people. All people, regardless of budget, can submit a film and attend the event. This year we do offer an option to pay us a dollar for your submission. It’s only an option though. If you don’t care to or can’t afford a dollar then there’s a completely free option. Just click the one labeled “Free” or “Regular” depending on your choice. Either way, all films will be considered equally. If you choose the dollar option, one hundred percent of your dollar (after FilmFreeway takes out their fees) goes toward helping pay for the actual event.

TromaDance is a film festival wholeheartedly devoted to filmmakers and fans. Unlike most other film festivals, TromaDance does not charge filmmakers to submit their films. Entrance to all screenings is free and open to the public. Also, there are no VIP reservations or preferential treatment regarding films, panels, or parties of any kind given. The organizers of TromaDance believe films are meant to be seen, especially when it comes to new filmmakers. Art – in all its forms – is for the people!

TromaDance features a range of films made independently, usually without big stars, big money and far removed from the Hollywood studio system. The official selections of TromaDance have been made with nothing more than passion, courage, integrity, and raw talent.

Everyone at TromaDance is treated as an equal. The elite and the celebrated are treated no better or worse than the experimental filmmaker or the random moviegoer off the street. Admittance to all screenings, panels, parties, and events is strictly on a first come, first served basis. If there are any VIPs at TromaDance, they are the filmmakers whose blood, sweat, and hard work are on the screen.

TromaDance is an opportunity for everyone who’s ever picked up a camera to have their work seen without the compromises required by elitist cartel interference. TromaDance is proud to be the first and only film festival of the people, for the people, and by the people.

TromaDance Detroit continues this tradition and expands on the possibility of a free and independent festival for the people! TromaDance Detroit features not only independent films, but we’ve expanded the festival to include art in all of its forms. Music, performance art, and more!

Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival 2018

Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival (A2CAF for short).

The Festival will still feature dozens of comics artists along with workshops, demonstrations and interactive drawing games. It will still be as kid- and family-friendly as ever. And attending the event will be free as always.

What we hope the new name makes clear is that young children aren’t the only ones who can enjoy a fun-packed Ann Arbor weekend filled with comics and creativity. We welcome teens and adults (always have) and offer a slate of guests and activities to meet a wide range of comics-related interests (ditto).
